01.08.2018 – A great comeback that ended with P14 rewarded Raffaele Giammaria’s weekend in the prestigious Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup 2018 at the Total 24 Hours of Spa (B).

The Italian that is Lamborghini’s Factory Driver honoured the colors of the brand from Sant’Agata Bolognese on the #19 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 run by Grasser Racing Team as part of a squad composed also by Ezequiel Perez Companc (ARG) and Marco Mapelli (ITA), in one of the most difficult and exciting editions of the prestigious 24 Hours of the past few years.

The preparation work ahead of this round has been very focused for Giammaria, and the Italian has worked hard together with his co-equipers to define the setup for the circuit of Spa-Francorchamps. The target has been to improve the feeling with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 since the beginning, especially on the race pace, that is fundamental in this long motorsport marathon.

As usual in Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup, the qualifying time was obtained as an average of the performance of the three drivers in as many sessions. Grasser Racing Team’s lineup qualified 28th with an average time of 2’20.939s.

The race has been spectacular, with several interruptions due to full-course yellows and a red flag. Giammaria reacted with great professionalism after these rhythm changes and focused on driving precision and strategy. Thanks to this approach and to the performance of the car, the lineup managed to recover a stunning 14 places in the 24 hours, installing themselves in P14 when two hours were left. They eventually crossed the finish line as the first Lamborghini at the chequered flag.

Raffaele Giammaria:
“This has been a very difficult race, but I am proud for contributing to this important result for Lamborghini. The car crossed the finish line in perfect conditions, we did not have technical problems or contacts, which is not a sure thing in an endurance race like the Total 24 Hours of Spa, that is the most prestigious round of the whole championship. The great work done by the team allowed me to get the most out of my stints. We have never been particularly favoured by the episodes. In 24 pit stops, we never took advantage of race neutralization periods. We had the pace to slide in the top ten, but I am happy for this intense and prestigious weekend that ended with a good result”.

Giammaria is busy on track for a Lamborghini test at Paul Ricard. He will get behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 of Grasser Racing Team after the summer break for the exciting closing appointment of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup 2018 next September 28-30th in Barcelona (E).
