04.09.2018 – A perfect performance and a third place in PRO AM marked Raffaele Giammaria’s weekend in Silverstone (UK) during the third-last round of International GT Open 2018.

The Italian driver on the #19 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 run by Imperiale Racing and the young co-equiper from China Jia Tong Liang faced the British weekend with great motivation aiming to repeat the good performance scored at Hungaroring, when the pairing secured the first podium of the season.

Giammaria displayed the same pace as the front runners since free practice and confirmed a great pace also in Q1. A great feeling with the car from Sant’Agata Bolognese allowed the Italian driver to post his quickest performance in 1’59.305s, which earned Imperiale Racing the first place of PRO-AM and the sixth overall.

Race one has been electrifying. Giammaria used again all his experience and delayed the pit stop until the closing stages of the pit window. This overcut strategy made him climb up the classification and keep the PRO AM lead until the pit-stop. His co-equiper led a good second stint defending himself well from the attacks moved by the rivals, ending PRO AM in third place, which was the second podium in a row and eleventh place overall.

Race two has been more complex. Liang qualified the car in 22nd place and he spun during the first lap after a contact with the #96 Audi R9 LMS driven by Oliver Wilkinson. The latter was then handed a time penalty. Rejoined last, the Chinese driver handed the car over to Giammaria back down the field and the Italian did not want to take too many risks eying the forthcoming rounds and closed his stint in P19 overall, that was 10th of PRO AM.

Raffaele Giammaria:
“I am definitely satisfied for my performance in Silverstone. I had a great feeling with the car even if we can still improve. This gave me confidence boost since free practice. I managed to push hard in Q1 and the start from the third row put us in the battle for top positions for the whole first stint. We got the second podium in a row, which is quite important and makes me positive for Monza”.

Giammaria will be back behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 run by Imperiale Racing next September 21st – 23rd for the penultimate round of International GT Open 2018 at the Autodromo Nazionale of Monza (ITA).
