26.09.2018 – A spectacular win in Pro-Am, the first of the season with Imperiale Racing, ended the Raffaele Giammaria’s weekend at the Autodromo Nazionale of Monza (ITA) during the penultimate round of International GT Open 2018.

The Italian Lamborghini Factory Driver and co-equiper Jia Tong Liang (PRC) put in one of his best weekends of the season yet in the only Italian round in the calendar, behind the wheel of the #19 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 run by Imperiale Racing.

The feeling with the fast Italian circuit has been positive since free practice and Giammaria managed to tune his driving style to the specific features of the “Temple of Speed”. The Lamborghini Factory Driver run Q2 on Sunday morning, suffering some setup issues, and posted the 13th quickest time in 1:47.554s, that was 5th of Pro-Am.

Race one has been very exciting. After the start from the tenth row of the grid of co-equiper Liang and the first stint that saw the safety car being deployed several times, Giammaria got the wheel for the second part of the race and managed to finalize a furious comeback up to the sixth place. An unfair contact by Alessandro Pier Guidi’s #51 Ferrari 488 GT3 in the closing stages forced Imperiale Racing’s driver to concede two places before crossing the finish line in eighth place, that was second of Pro-Am.

Race two has been full of adrenaline. Giammaria got away from the seventh row and managed to stay away from the contacts of the first two laps, that are quite frequent in the famous chicanes of Monza. The Italian driver recovered several positions thanks to a good race pace and the overcut strategy devised with the team turned out to be perfect. This choice allowed Liang to rejoin on top of Pro-Am and the pairing to secure the first Pro-Am win of the season and the overall P9.

Raffaele Giammaria:
“A victory in Monza has always a special flavour and the fact that it has been the first with Imperiale Racing and Jia Tong Liang makes it even more special. This has been a positive weekend, the car gave me a great feedback and with the team we devised a perfect strategy in both races. Unfortunately, things did not work out in race one and the contact with Pier Guidi stripped us from a sixth place that would be very important for the team’s classification”.

Giammaria will be back behind the wheel of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 run by Imperiale Racing from October 19-21 for the closing round of the season in Barcelona (E).
