31.10.2018 – A fourth place at the end of a spectacular and quite difficult appointment has closed Raffaele Giammaria’s 2018 sporting season. He has been busy at the circuit of Mugello this past weekend for the final round of the Italian GT 2018 Championship.
The Italian Lamborghini Factory Driver faced the two races on the famous Italian racetrack at the wheel of the #26 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 run by Imperiale Racing, sharing driving duties with co-equiper Mirko Bortolotti (ITA) for the first time.
The great feeling with the circuit located near Florence was there since the beginning and Giammaria posted very good times since free practice. The Italian driver got on track for the second qualifying session stopping the watches in 1’46.829s and qualifying the #26 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 in P6, repeating the performance put in by Bortolotti in Q1.
Race one was run on dry conditions early on Saturday afternoon. Giammaria drove during the second stint and kept himself mid-way through the pack. Despite the position lower down the field, the Italian displayed his speed and recovered several positions, ending sixth overall.
Weather conditions were very different in race two, that was run under heavy rain on Sunday. The race started behind the safety car but Giammaria completed a very strong stint allowing Bortolotti to fight for the podium with Postiglione in the second stint. The #26 car ended fourth at the end of a spectacular performance.
The Italian round ended Giammaria’s season, that has also included the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup with Grasser Racing Team, International GT Open and some races of the Italian GT Championship with Imperiale Racing. The intense season of the Lamborghini Factory Driver has lived on some particularly exciting moments, including two podiums, a win in Monza, and the fourth place of Pro-Am in GT Open. Remarkable was his race in Barcelona on October 30th when he recovered an amazing 22 places in a race that will be forever in the heart of his supporters.
“This has been a particularly intense season, with several important results and some difficult moments. I am happy for ending it here in Mugello giving my contribution to the Lamborghini success in the Italian GT Championship. This result confirmed the great quality of the brand that I proudly defended also on the racetracks across Europe. The level of the competition in the championships I took part in has been very high, the challenge has been quite exciting and I can call myself quite happy about the results obtained. The goal is to keep raising the bar and keep improving also eying 2019. I am already working on it and I hope I can disclose my sporting programs for the new season soon”.
